Sri Lanka troops make arrests, clear main protest sites
Sri Lanka’s security forces arrested several people on Friday morning and cleaned the protesters of the main camp that had been occupied for more than three months while demanding the leaders of the country to resign over the unprecedented economic collapse.
Army and police personnel arrived at trucks and bus around midnight, removing tents and protested banners at a location near the Presidential Palace in the capital, Colombo, where the demonstrators had gathered for the last 104 days. They block the road to the site and carry a long pole. The security forces were witnessed to beat at least two journalists.
Why does Sri Lanka just need a Tamil leader
There was no call to “neutral referee”. There is no politician who made a big promise. There is no religious leader who spreads communal hatred. Only people. Or even better, people – Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Buddhism, Hinduism. Students, parents and grandparents, professionals – teachers, nurses, lawyers, bankers, doctors, computer engineers.
From 9 April to 9 July, as an economic crisis caused by a shortage of dollars that were suddenly manifested with lack of food, fuel and drugs, Sri Lanka from all hue collected at Galle Face Oceanfront, with only one request: “Gota go home “. They do not have a leader but they are well organized. Carefully, they clean the protest site every morning and evening, as if delivering the cleaning of Sri Lanka itself. Getting out of plastic waste, they created works of art in the pedestrian area.
