Eight people were arrested for offering a ‘name’ at the weekly market on Haridwar Uttarakhand, police said on Friday. The defendant was then given a guarantee by the Sub-Division Court (HR), the police added.
Following Tip-off, Nizam (22), Nasim (52), Sajjad Ahmad (50), Mursalin (38), Ashraf (45), ASGAR (37), Mustafa (35) and Ikram (47) were arrested at Shivalikik Nagar Colony On Thursday night because it offered a ‘name’ in the weekly market, said the police supervisor (city) Swatantra Kumar.
They were arrested based on section 151 of the Criminal Code (design for committing violations that could be cognized) and were produced before the HR court. The court gave them a warning and gave them a guarantee, he said
Earlier this month, the police had submitted a FIR to a group of unknown people who allegedly offered the namez at Lulu Mall which was just opened in Lucknow, after the right wing Hindu clothing objected to it and asked permission to recite Hanuman Chalisa there.
Mall administration also responded by putting up a notification in a place stating that religious prayer was not permitted, according to the Hindustan Times report.
