President Joe Biden was tested positively for Covid-19 on Thursday, experiencing mild symptoms and had begun to take paxlovid, treating antivirus pills. See what we know about the president and the coronavirus infection:
How does he feel?
Biden reported watery nose, fatigue and dry cough occasionally, according to the memo of Dr. Kevin O’Connor, President’s doctor. Biden felt tired Wednesday night and did not sleep well, Covid-19 White House coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha tells the press briefing. Biden Tweeted Thursday: “Friends, I’m fine. Thank you for your concern.”
What kind of test did he use?
Biden is regularly filtered for Coronavirus. Infection was detected first with an antigen test, the same type as used by many Americans at home. That was later confirmed with the PCR test, said the President’s doctor. The last test of the previous president for Covid-19 was Tuesday, when he had negative test results.
Is he vaccinated?
Yes. The president is fully vaccinated and twice is increased. Biden got two doses of the Pfizer vaccine shortly before serving, the first booster shot in September and an additional dose of March 30.
Does he get treatment?
Biden took Paxlovid, which was passed in the US at the end of last year. In parents and other high-risk patients, this drug is proven to reduce the possibility of hospitalization or death due to COVID-19. Pills work best if taken in five days from the beginning of the symptoms. The President’s doctor said the status of biden vaccination and early treatment with Paxlovid must make him get out of danger. Biden temporarily stops taking blood thinners and cholesterol drugs as recommended for patients who use paxlovid.
What is the plan of isolation?
Biden will work separately for at least five days and until he tests negatively, said the White House. Once he tested negatively, he would return to direct work. The White House said it would provide a daily update on the status of the President.
How does the virus affect parents?
At the age of 79, Biden is in a high -risk group for severe diseases. About 8 out of 10 Covid-19 deaths occur in people over the age of 65, with the risk of increasing with age. Also among the most vulnerable are those who have other health problems such as diabetes and heart condition.
Did he get a variant of BA.5?
It is unclear which variants have been contracted by Biden, even though the sample has been sent for genetic sequences to determine it. The dominant virus variant in the US is Omicron BA.5 mutants, which also stands out throughout the world. The variant contributed three -quarters from a new infection reported in the US last week. It also has gained global land, forming more than half of the sequential omicron cases. Experts say BA.5 is one of the most transmitted variants but they have not seen an increase in severity compared to the previous Omicron variant.
Where did he catch him?
That’s not clear. Symptoms can start two days to two weeks after being exposed to the virus. Biden lately maintains a busy travel schedule. During the recent Middle East trip, the president was standing out, handshake and even occasionally hugging. He returned to Washington Saturday night and did not emphasize himself for the next three days, leaving for a while to attend the church and for Tuesday’s performance outside the White House with the First Lady of Ukraine. He traveled to Massachusetts on Wednesday to announce new steps that are simple to fight climate change.
What about Jill Biden?
The First Lady said on Thursday that she tested negatively the previous day. He will follow the CDC guide about Masking and keep away during a visit scheduled to Michigan and Georgia on Thursday, said Michael Larosa, his spokesman.
