In the coming weeks, Instagram will launch features that will allow anyone on the platform to take photos that are shared publicly, and turn them into scrolls.
Reels is an Instagram Knock-off-off-tok, which allows the maker to make a 15-second short video set to music. The new ability is intended to be an extension for Remix Instagram for a roll, which allows people to post reactionary videos that appear next to the original video.
With new features, anyone can use images that are shared publicly on the platform to create a new remix, and post it on a roll.
Instagram said that by default, this feature will be turned on for all content that is shared publicly but the company will offer a way to turn it off.
Speaking with The Verge, meta spokesman Devi Narasimhan said that the platform will provide a broad arrangement that will allow people to turn off the remix, if they choose it. Any photo that is shared before the new feature is activated, will automatically be turned off remixing, but the user will be able to activate it in settings, if they want.
In addition to these changes, Instagram announced that they would make it easier to make scrolls from the beginning, using a pre-built template that had an audio placeholder and pre-reading clip.
Another feature that will be launched soon, is the ability to use your front and back cameras simultaneously. This allows you to capture your reaction and the environment that you shoot at the same time, rather than connecting your reaction at the post.
Instagram also said that every video post that was shared on the platform, and less than 15 minutes, would be shared as a scroll. The video posted before this change, will remain a normal video. Video tabs and reels will also be consolidated into one part, for easier access.
