Islamabad: A 21 -year -old American social media activist and a vlogger allegedly raped by two men in Punjab Province in Pakistan last week. The incident had triggered anger among Pakistani netizens who demanded tighter actions from the authorities in the country.
When the story appears online, it causes anger among netizens who condemn the actions of ‘shameless’, demanding strict actions for the perpetrators. The incident was revealed after the survivor submitted the first information report (FIR) at the Border Military Police Station (BMP) at Fort Munro Hill Station. Fir stated that the woman was raped by Muzmal Sipra and Shehzad from Rajanpur on July 17’s night in the hotel room.
The complainant also said he had received threats from Sipra not to carry out legal proceedings against them.
BMP registered the case with Sipra, Shehazad and Azan Khosa from Dera Ghazi Khan under section 376 and 292B from the Criminal Code Pakistan.
The frequency of alarming cases to women in Pakistan is a big threat to women in the country and raises concerns to the authorities.
A new report compiled by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) and the Center for Research, Development and Communication shows the trend that develops in violence against women in Pakistan along with the increasing number of cases of domestic violence in this country.
According to the report, a total of 157 women were kidnapped, 112 were victims of physical attacks and 91 women were raped throughout Pakistan in June.
Punjab reported 53 rape cases, followed by 16 cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14 cases in Sindh, six cases in Islamabad, and two cases in Balochistan.
The capital of Punjab Province, Lahore reported a large number of cases of sexual violence in the previous week. The worrying frequency of these cases encourages Pakistani police to review the overall performance of gender-based violent cells.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan’s (HRCP) recent report said that in Pakistan, at least 11 rape cases are reported daily with over 22,000 such incidents reported to police in the last six years (2015-21).
